I used to believe I was special
That's what Mom always told me when I was a girl.
She said, Be who you are
    You're a magical star
And you won't have a care in the world.

But the world has a way of deflating
All your dreams when they've gone your head in a whirl
Cuz the truth, it can hurt:
    You're as special as dirt
And you don't have a friend in the world.

So maybe I'm not all that magic
And maybe that makes me a freak
So maybe my story is tragic
Or maybe, just maybe, it makes me unique!!

So forget about tryin' to be special.
That's a flag that I don't really need to unfurl.
    Cuz I've got to believe
    That believing in me
Means I'm ready to take on the world!

Yeah, the world is my oyster
    And I'll be the pearl
Cuz I'm ready, so ready to take on the world!!
