This comedy noir is based on 8 reindeers, in character, coming out and dishing the dirt on Santa. Finally, we get a glimpse of the real characters, the diverse personalities and the struggles for power that really go on inside the most efficient team in the world. All is not well at the toyshop and each reindeer has their chance to tell it like it is. No team member is immune to the consequences of what Santa is being accused of.
What is hearsay? What is fact? Where will the buck stop? (pun intended). Who can shed more light on Santa Claus’ personality and lifestyle than those who have to put up with him, and his antics, every year?
Despite the legend, Santa and his wife harbour many unsavoury secrets that could shatter the joyous Claus myth. Like all work environments and employer/employee relationships, not all is as it first appears.
Written by Jeff Goode, “The Eight : Reindeer Monologues” has been entertaining audiences since it was first performed in 1993,.
“wickedly funny” - Los Angeles Times
“brisk, funny…a nice jolt of fun” – The New Yorker
“hard-hitting in-your-face black comedy” – Evening Post, Wellington, New Zealand
“witty…tantalizing…highly recommended!” - The Chicago Reader
Performing at the East Village Hotel in Darlinghurst, patrons can easily stroll down from Oxford street or straight from the city after work. The relaxed setting of the 3rd floor of the hotel, patrons can enjoy a drink or two before, during and after the show.

228 Productions has brought together a group of talented and enthusiastic actors to perform this exciting and immensely funny piece of theatre, which relies on strong performances by the players who simply want to be herd.

IT'S MONKEY BUSINESS AS USUAL AS WE PRESENT:
THE EIGHT: REINDEER MONOLOGUES
By Jeff Goode
A PITCH BLACK CHRISTMAS COMEDY
Looking for something a little non-traditional this Christmas season? The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is the perfect christmas comedy for the age of the daytime talk show, public scandal and publicity drunk society.
He's admired and revered throughout the world, he's a man with many names; Santa Claus, Father Christmas, St. Nick or as one reindeer calls him, "a walking, talking, holly-jolly, sex crime waiting to happen".
The North Pole is in a state of scandal when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment.
The mass media descends on the event and the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives. What is unveiled? A shocking tale of corruption and perversion which seems to involve everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.
It seems like some of the deer support him, whilst others want to destroy him even if it means the end of Christmas altogether.
Jeff Goode's series of interlinked monologues creatively skewers an assortment of political and social hypocrises as the reindeer dish the dirt on Santa. Did he or didn't he?
"He knows when you are sleeping....he knows when you're awake....he knows if you've been bad or good..."
WARNING: This show is NOT for children but will provide a huge injection of fun for adults.

First it was baseball, then hockey -- now the reindeer threaten a walkout. And their reasons are more frightening than a salary cap. This black comedy by playwright Jeff Goode chronicles the times and troubles of the eight reindeer of Yuletide fame. In their own comic way, the reindeer share their feelings on topics ranging from career choices and family values to sexual harassment.

By popular demand the smash-hit anti-Christmas pageant is back with a vengeance! In this dark comedy a media frenzy erupts when scandalous allegations are leveled at the North Pole's most prominent resident. As each legendary member of Santa's flying team comes forward to demand its share of the lime-light, a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, implicating everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.

When Mrs Claus is away, Santa will play. Or so say the most famous reindeer of the North Pole. A decidedly irreverent yet thoroughly entertaining jab at all things Christmas. (Children under 17 not admitted without a parent)
It seems some of the reindeer are having problems with Old Saint Nick (and Mrs. Claus too)! It's a question of 'Did he or didn't he' as each of the reindeer weigh in on recent events involving Vixen and Rudolph and some goings on behind closed doors in Santa's workshop. A decidedly irreverent look at life on the North Pole!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS PRODUCTION IS FOR OUR ADULT AUDIENCES AND IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 17. CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A PARENT.
Announcing a special guest!
After each performance, stick around for a visit from Santa Claus himself! You can get your picture taken with Santa (or your favorite reindeer) right on the set! Photos are $5.00 each, with proceeds benefiting programs and activities offered by Asylum Productions.

The Vaudeville Mews
212 4th Street, in downtown Des Moines.Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
For the third year in a row, AriesWorks Entertainment will produce Iowan (now Los Angelino) Jeff Goode's bitingly irreverent stage comedy, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues in a special return engagement at the Vaudeville Mews, 212 4th Street in downtown Des Moines, opening December 18, 2003.Not for the kiddies or the easily offended, The Eight features Santa's famous reindeer as they break their long-held silence and blow the whistle on the jolly old elf's perversions. Whether it's the star-struck Prancer (a.k.a. 'Hollywood'), the manic, gay Cupid, the militant feminist Blitzen, or the gang-banging Comet, what they have to say may not be pretty, but it's hysterically funny, strangely moving and thought-provoking; in short, The Eight is a treat for those looking for something other than the usual Holiday theatre fare.
The Eight runs December 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2003 at 7:30 pm, at the Mews. If crowds warrant, AriesWorks and the Mews are holding open the possibility of additional late-night performances. Regular ticket price is $15 in advance, and $18 at the door, with discounts for students, seniors and members of the Iowa Motion Picture Association and the Iowa Scriptwriters Alliance.
