Accusations, rumors and all-out attacks are flying fast and furious around Santa's toyshop this holiday season. What's the true story behind Rudolph's unlikely rise to fame? Does Mrs. Claus have a serious drinking problem? Can St. Nick himself really be guilty of sexual harassment... against one of the reindeer? And with all this going on, how can the spirit of Christmas be saved? Go behind the tinsel and hear the truth about Santa straight from the eight reindeer who know him best. Jeff Goode's The Eight: Reindeer Monologues -a chaotic comedy about Christmas- runs November 29-December 1 at 8:00pm in the Sterndale Bennett theatre, with an additional late night show at 10:00pm on Friday, November 30.

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is the inaugural production for AMMOLITE THEATRE, a new Lethbridge-based theatre company. The production features a team of talented Southern Albertan theatre artists; as well, the show will be a homecoming for a pair of Lethbridge-raised actors who have since pursued successful theatre/film careers in Calgary.

Dysfunctional Theatre's 3rd annual production continues its inventive re-imagining of Jeff Goode's modern Christmas classic. "Santa's reindeer gather at their private North Pole watering hole, and as the booze flows, the scandal grows. Alternately hilarious & disturbing, nothing is held sacred as the reindeer expose all of Santa's (& their own) indiscretions. Screaming, crying and WAY too much eggnog... isn't that what Christmas is all about?" explain press notes. This Christmas story is for consenting adults only.

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is a story about Santa's beloved reindeer and their issues with sexual harassment, alcoholism, homosexuality and the working conditions of Santa's toyshop. When one member of the sleight team speaks out, the media wants answers to what happened that night in the toyshop. The dark comedy, set in the North Pole, takes you through each of the famous reindeer's thoughts on the outrageous claims against Mr. Claus. With all of this going on, will the spirit of Christmas survive?

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues by Jeff Goode will be performed in the Maintenance Shop on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. This play deals with a mature subject and content may not be appropriate for all ages. This production is being performed by members of the Ames community theater group Searching for Shakespeare, and is sponsored by the Margaret Sloss Women's Center, SUB, and the M-Shop. Proceeds will benefit the Margaret Sloss Women's Center programs and events.

The Artists' Workshop presents the naughty holiday classic "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" at The Comedy Zone. The show is directed by and features some of the city's most veteran thespians. It's intended for mature audiences only. Tickets are $10. Call 575-4242.

The Reindeer Monologues is all about Santa's 8 reindeer and what it's like to work in the North Pole the day before Christmas Eve. Directed by Jim Hyde, proceeds from the shows will directly help the great work of three charities serving Cork and Munster: ARC Cancer Support House, the Breast Care Unit of The South Infirmary Hospital and Cork's Hearing-Impaired and Deaf community.

Kind of like The Office, but set in the Arctic Circle this great show, by Jeff Goode of the USA, gives everyone the chance to get a break from Panto's this Christmas and see some silly grown-up humour about what Santa really uses those sleigh rides for! The 8 reindeer are: Dasher (the serious one); Cupid (the silly one); Blitzen (the fiery one); Hollywood (the egotistical one); Comet (the tough one); Donner (the fatherly one); Dancer (the cute one) and Vixen (the flirty one). There's also a couple of elves thrown into the mix.

Top line: This isn't for kids. Think of it as the gin and tonic reward for those who are already holidayed out: Something cool with a refreshing bite.

The dark Christmas comedy suits New Stage Theatre's Unframed series, where alternative theater goes to entertain. Highly irreverent, it skewers ol' Santa and company in a sendup from the reindeer's point of view.

"Charges have been brought against Santa for inappropriate conduct, so basically each reindeer is giving his take," says Chris Roebuck, who's playing Comet.

Horning in: "It wouldn't be good theater if it were regular old reindeer talking, so each one of them has serious dysfunctions." Comet, for instance, is a former drug addict who Santa Claus saved by putting him on the team.

Dasher, played by Turner Crumbley, is the herd superhero and group leader - "No. 1 from Day One" in his own words and "a cross between a Dirty Dozen Lee Marvin and Denis Leary," Crumbley says.

"It's a very funny black comedy, in the style of really mean standup."

These deer aren't the smiling furry flyers you've grown up with. As Crumbley says, "They're rode hard and put up wet."

The savage humor becomes a comment on political correctness in this satire of gender and sexual politics.

The show's for mature audiences only, so as not to traumatize the kiddies. It's directed by veteran New Stage, film and TV actor Rus Blackwell.

No one ever said Santa was nice. Who knows if he's been bad or good? Well, the Reindeer know...And now they're talking.
