(President Bush, in response to Ohio Representative Jean Schmidt's comments from the floor of the House— November 18th, 2005)

GEORGE BUSH

No war has ever been won on a timetable.

And I oughta know, because I thought we could win this war in about 30 days.
Then I thought it would take maybe 3 months.
The insurgency, I really thought would be over in about 6 months.
Heck, I already made plans for what I’m doing 4 years from now,
so I can’t be worrying about the Iraq war, ‘cause it’s gonna be over by then, right?

So timetables don’t work.

And don’t get me wrong:
I am a big supporter of timetables.
I love a good timetable.
But not now.

Because what’s the difference now?
Well, the difference is that this is a Democratic timetable.

And everyone knows: Democrats cut and run.
But George Bush never cuts, and he never runs.
Even in the face of death.
Especially the death of people who are proud to die for their country.

I’m not going to say Democracy is for cowards.
That’s not what I’m saying.
It’s already been said.
I’m not saying by who, ‘cause she’s a pretty unpopular lady right now.

But Representative Jean Schmidt is right about one thing:
Democrats are cowards.
And Republicans who agree with the Democrats are cowards.
And Independents, too.
And anyone who has the courage of their convictions.

We are at war.
This is no time for Democratic solutions.
Solutions are for cowards.

So you gotta decide right here and now, America,
between whether you want a George Bush solution.
Or a Democrat solution.
What’s it going to be America?
George Bush? Or Democracy?
Because you can’t have it both ways.
It’s one or the other.

And I know which one I’d choose.
…And that ought to be good enough for you.
