Savin' Up For Saturday Night: A Theatrical Review

by Randall Gray

The incredibly delightful Grove Theatre in Upland, CA is currently showing a wild and hip shaking honky-tonk musical called Savin' Up For Saturday Night. This production by Jeff Goode and Richard Levinson is the dream production of all country music endearing, 'tear-in-my-beer for ya darlin' story line lovers. If you love country and western music and dance, attitude and life approach, with a comedic overtone, this show is your jug of whiskey.

The lives of Lucinda (played by Wendi Ann Hammock) Eldridge Jr. (played by Brendan Hunt) and Doc (played by Doug Gochman), all intertwine with the everyday troubles that many in America today will be able to identify with. Add Patsy (portrayed by Courtney DeCosky) as the new love interest of Eldridge Jr., and the unending trial of sorting out the love, love lost, love found, love missed out on story of this production is off and running. The entire production takes place in a tavern someplace in America that could be any state. The cast interacts with one another and the audience, in a somewhat interactive musical style, that brings the audience into the production as a part of the big picture. It's a night in the life of country music lovin' folk that will make you laugh, sing along, cheer, and perhaps even shed a tear or two, depending on your own life experiences.
