The Conservatory of Theatre Arts offers an intensive, highly focused BFA training program in acting and both a BFA and an MFA training program in theatre design/technology for a limited number of students who seek to pursue professional careers in these fields. As one of four schools in the Consortium of Professional Theatre Training Programs, Purchase is one of a handful of colleges in the world capable of training artists at this levelÑand of drawing a faculty from the ranks of professional theatre.
In addition, the Conservatory offers two BA programs. In playwriting and screenwriting, students learn how to write for both the stage and the screen in courses taught by industry professionals, with plenty of room to explore other interests. The BA program in theatre and performance is designed for students interested in exploring the history and aesthetics of world drama and performance and the possibilities of theatrical expressionÑas performers, directors, and playwrightsÑwithin a broader liberal arts context.
And because Purchase is located close to New York City, our students have easy access to some of the best theatrical venues and production facilities in the country.
SouthBay Cabaret is a student produced cabaret program at SUNY Purchase College supported by The Performing Arts Center. Arts Management students curate and manage programs which reflect the artistic ability, talent and creativity of the campus. SouthBay Cabaret strives to capture a greatly diverse student audience and foster an exciting, eclectic, joyful atmosphere. Our mission is to stimulate an understanding and appreciation for live performances in the Purchase College community.
All events are FREE and held in the upstairs lobby of the PAC. Two cabaret programs are held each academic year: 2 in the Fall semester and 2 in the Spring semester. A pannel of Arts Management students decide on performers for each show based upon the shows theme, ability of the performers, variety of performing arts in the show and other factors. Each show is marketed, programmed and overall managed by Arts Management students with the guidance of frequent meetings with professors and PAC staff administrators.
We accept all types of talent including: music (solo, ensembles, bands), dance (solos, duets, trios, very small group numbers), theater (monologues, one acts, no script readings please), drag, comedy (stand up, improv), poetry/spoken word, and much more!
