Finally, an Oriental lead character in a Disney animated series (is that cool or what?). Jake Long is your typical 13-year-old living in America, totally into skateboarding, video games and comics. However, he has a secret: Jake is a descendant of a long line of Dragons, the guardians of all magical creatures living in the human world. His Grandpa has just moved to the US to train Jake to become the first American Dragon. Actor Keone Young, who provides the voice of Grandpa, commends the series for its depiction of Asian characters. "I'm third generation Chinese American and I was really happy to be part of this project. It gives expression to what it is to be Asian-American. We've been here for almost 200 years yet you can see from Hollywood films that we're still considered foreigners. American Dragon acknowledges that America is made up of people from all different backgrounds."
