EXT. OUTSIDE FLOYD'S BARBER SHOP

Barney vomits in the alley, as Andy looks on, amused.

                                      ANDY
What's the matter, Barn? The thought
of two men together turns your stomach?

                                      BARNEY
Of course not. I spent a semester away
at college, in case you forgot.

                                      ANDY
                          You're right, I apologize.

                                      BARNEY
The thought of Otis and Floyd together
is what's gonna keep me awake nights.

                                      ANDY
I can't imagine what either of 'em sees
                          in the other.

                                      BARNEY
You think he could be makin' it up?
Just to put us off the scent?

                                      ANDY
                          I don't know why you'd lie about
something like that. On the other
hand, I don't know why you'd tell the
                          truth about it, either.

                                      BARNEY
That's the trouble with these confirmed
bachelor types. They're a cagey bunch.
If they was women, we could just go
over to the diner and ask around.
Somebody would have heard about it.

                                      ANDY
You know, Barney, that gives me an
                          idea.

Andy and Barney hurry across the street to the --

               INT. COURTHOUSE

Andy goes to his desk with Barney at his heels.

                                      BARNEY
                          What is it, Andy?

                                      ANDY
When a fella's sweet on a gal. What
                          does he do?

                                      BARNEY
Aw, Anj, do we have to talk about that
                          now?

                                      ANDY
                          Humor me, Barn.

                                      BARNEY
Well, I suppose he drops round for a
                          visit. Brings her flowers. Escorts
                          her out.

                                      ANDY
And supposing he can't take her out for
whatever reason. Or can't drop around.

                                      BARNEY
He calls her up on the phone, sweet
                          talks her that way.
                                (beat)
                          Say, you don't suppose--?

               Andy picks up the telephone.

                                      ANDY
Hello, Sarah? This is Sheriff Taylor.
No, I don't want you to put me through
to anybody. I want to talk to you.

                                                         CUT TO
